Was thinking of picking one of these up for my POS laptop. How are they? Or would you just reccomend a regular external drive like a Seagate or a Maxtor?

I would definately go with the enclosure, because you save a lot of money.

Make sure it has some way to circulate air, or that it has a some way to keep the drive cool, or your drive will go bad quicker

When I was shopping for an external drive it seemed like most of the pre-fab'd units ie seagate or maxtor carried only a 1 year warranty which for me was a detractor. There were a lot of factors that came into play but ultimately I went with an enclosure and added my own HD and it's done me right for the past 7 months.
