Are they even effective? It's something you see in movies once in a while, especially hitting both ears at the same time with a cupped palm.
Why do you never see it in UFC? Seems like it could disorient someone.

    :dunno:

yes its legal. people dont tend to do it because you only have so much time to finish a fight, and with adrenaline going you're not going to feel that very much. i mean foot stomps hurt more, and people very rarely do those.

that and it makes your opponent warey about his feet, leaving pretty much everything else much more vulnerable. i'd hate to get foot stomped by Leben's huge clown feet

I'm sure it would have been effective on Seth in the last Ultimate Fighter season. :hs:

Foot stomps are highly under used. I don't know why more dont considering the amount of time spent in the clinch in ANY fight.

Totally agree.. on the street this can be an extremly effective technique. Cant see why it cant transfer to the cage?

as someone who has suffered through a perfprated eardrum, I can vouch for the amount of pain and disorientation it causes.

I couldn't stand up and could do nothing for the pain.

    it sucks a big one.

it'll fly in pancrase, but open hand strikes aren't allowed in most other venues

Why would open hand striking be dissallowed? Just because of the ear thing? Seems to me like they could just say no open hand strikes to ears only.

I think open palm strikes are not allowed cuz they don't want fingers in the eye
