Great fun for plinking, fairly accurate with surplus ammo, great gun all around. Your gun collection is incomplete unless you have a mosin.

I want an M44. Solely because, from what I've heard, it's loud as hell with a HUGE muzzle flash - to the point where, why you fire it, the rest of the line at the range will poke their collective heads around to see just what the hell you're shooting.

    Yup. Truth indeed :big grin:

I took mine to the tincan plinking range one day and fired off a couple hundred rounds as fast as I can cycle the action. After a few mins, the range was empty :o

 God I want one. What's hilarious to me is just how cheap the things are - $70 for a functional, reliable rifle that will need, at most, about 3 hours worth of work?

    Fine weapons.
Every once in a while you'll find one with cool carvings on it.

So it looks like I should get my C&R to avoid FFL Fees.

How long does it take to get the C&R license?

I think the official turn around time is 90 days but usually doesnt take that long.

    I fucking love my M44.

And yes, the comment about everyone else on the range turning around to see wtf you're shooting is very true.

Damn metal buttplates will bruise you up something good, though. :o

    91/30
The bayonet on the 44 is basically worthless to you or me and the barrel is shorter. If you plan on any longer range shooting (which I assume you will for the hunting) or if you plan on mounting a scope, I suggest you get a 91/30

If you plan on using it for hunting I suggest you get a separate sporterised stock for it. There are some camo plastic monte carlo stocks being made for like $50 a pop

Yeah, I was planning on getting a composite stock. I'm not too big on wood.

Is it foolish to put another $100 into a mosin or should I just buy a $200 hunting rifle? Can a decent 30-'06 be had for $200? It would be pretty cool to hunt with a gun from 70 years ago though. :hsd:

    Planned upgrades: http://www.atigunstocks.com/product-mosin.html

    black synth stock:

    scope mount + bolt handle:

Total for both upgrades shipped is right @ $100. :noes:

Finn Mosin wth Finn barrel > any other Mosin.

edit: and if you want a carbine, 91/59 > any other Mosin carbine

if you REALLY want to clear the range, get a M38 mosin and put a muzzle brake on the end

but when my and my friends go to the range with all our mil surps, we tend to get one of the three firing areas to ourselves, since its fucking load with a 1903, Yugo Mauser, and Mosin all going off at the same time.

Last time I went with my M44 I was right next to three young guys learning to shoot with a Browning Buckmark. I was watching out of the corner of my eye and they all jumped when I opened up :mamoru:

I would have one on my 91/30 for shits and giggles, but I would have to shim it or something, and fuck that.

I picked up a 91/30 about three weeks ago and it's a great rifle. For longer range, I would suggest a longer barrel version like the 91/30.

Check out http://7.62x54r.net for TONS of info about every version of the Mosin Nagant

You'll be able to find them there. Without a doubt.
