I was looking at a Kimber Pro Carry today and it felt really nice in my hand. Doesnt hold many rounds due to the single stack, but I like the fact that it made the gun much thinner than double stacks. But, how reliable and accurate are these guns? Are you pretty much just paying for the name? Just thought I would ask you guys before I jumped into anything.

I've heard mixed reviews on Kimbers. They're one of the better 1911s....but it's still a 1911.

I've generally read good things about Series I Kimbers. However, Series II Kimbers have gotten some bad press on various forums.

You can do some research on the Kimber section at 1911forums:

I was looking at them a few days back, pretty guns, but then again I don't really care how the gun looks that much. I might get a Springfield.

I don't want a pretty gun. I want something that somebody looking the wrong way down it is gonna shit their pants to.

I have been seriously considering a Kimber for the past 2 months, but the literally countless number of reliability issues i've read about really left a sour taste in my mouth. I just can't bring myself to spend ~$1,000 on a gun that has a tarnished reputation for poor reliability, i'm sure it's on a case by case basis but for there to be this many reports of reliability issues can't just be a coincidence. However, for ever Kimber with reliability issues, i'm sure there are 10 which run flawlessly.

I have had NO problems with any Kimbers and have a brand new one coming in a month. The problems you hear about Kimbers having are related to their extractor design, which has been fixed.

Plus with the 06 line up all having internal extractors the problems of FTEs should be solved. I heard mixed reviews as well but I still bought one and I still haven't had a single problem with mine at all. In fact right now I've got close to 800 rds (dirty reloads too) through it and its shooting just fine. Custom trigger job and its the best shooting pistol I have hands down. Everyone agrees that shoots it, they get all worked up how nice the 1911 trigger is compared to all other makes. If I move back to the states, I'm going to look at a pro carry because the single stack slim design is perfect for concealment IMO.

Cost me 0 my friend did it. He does it as a hobby. Atomlowe fired it this weekend and maybe he'll back my claim but... its so sexy. Shortened and smoothened 2 lbs pull, super short reset. Its good and bad for noobs... good cuz they dont have time to flinch, bad because its so light they can accidently discharge a shot. LOL

I have yet to see or know someone personally that has had a kimber problem. I only read about them on the internet, and everything you read on the internet is true right?

^ Never said you or any reference to you.

But sometimes I dont believe to much into what people post because my experience tells me otherwise. Ya know? I mean I've read the stories about various subjects but yet in my personal experience or experiences of my friends and their friends I have yet to see results backing those claims.

People read kimbers have problems, they trust that persons opinion and thats fine, but my personal experience says differently. Shouldn't that person believe me as well? Fact is no one remembers the good they just remember the bad. If anyone is in the Vancouver area feel free to contact me and you can put all the ammo you want through my kimber. If it has any problems I will buy you dinner and reemburse you for your ammo costs. But if you cant shoot for shit thats not my problem. LOL Wow thats kinda of confusing, sorry about that. Its late and Im running on 5 hrs of sleep.

I shot a colt set up like that. super light pull was amazing. the bad thing is they might say that gun was modified for the sole purpose of killing somebody...

Whos "they"? Well I've been shooting for about 6 years now, I have yet to shoot at anything thats living so Im pretty sure Im in the clear. If paper and clay pigeons file a class action lawsuit then I could be in trouble.

lol, I meant if you were to use it in self defense. And "they" would be the people investigating.

Mine has been great so far, but I rarely shoot it since 9mm is way cheaper than .45.
