And by carry I mean: have a loaded pistol in a holster on you.

I've read up on the concealed licenses and such, but I dont really understand the wording and exceptions, etc.

I live in upstate NY by the way.

Most states (all but 2) require you to obtain a license to do so.
Some states issue it as long as you meet basic requirements (not a felon/insane/addict)
Some states are tougher to get one in and require you to take a course or qualify with the weapon.
Other states are rather difficult to obtain one in...and, of course, have the highest crime rates.

You'll find that even in the states with tough laws (read: violate the rights guaranteed you by the 2nd amendment) the crooks have guns and conceal them regularly.
Lotta good those laws do

My mother tried to convince me that it is illegal, and that my father cannot carry his pistol. Of course i forgot to think of the fact that his gun barrel is 20 inches or so. :naughty:

Now I just have to wait until im 21 :wtc:

you mean the centerfire rifle caliber single shots? that would be terrible as a carry weapon anyway.

Ya I was on this website this morning actually.

The thing that got me was:

    Carrying without a Permit/License

    Date updated: Aug 12, 2005 @ 10:02 pm

    (400.00 Sub 2)

Defines the type of licenses you can get in New York State. You have to have a license to even buy a gun and keep it in your home.

Since all handguns are registered in New York, open carry is effectively outlawed (no such license exists – carry licenses are to “have and carry concealed”) and licenses are required for concealed carry, there is no way to legally carry a handgun (concealed or otherwise) in the Empire State.

Penal Code § 265.01: NY Stun gun and Electric Weapon Law.

NY Body Armor Law can be found in NYS Penal Code S 270.20

i didnt bother reading the heading: carrying withOUT a license.

*shrug* who knows how shitty ass NY is but here you can open carry any weapon unless posted not to. Conceal carry handguns with a permit. Conceal loaded in a car with no permit. Long guns cant have a round in the chamber in a car

You're a little off. According to packing.org, these states allow open carry:
    Arizona
    Colorado
    Idaho
    Kentucky
    Louisiana
    Maine
    Mississippi
    Montana
    New Mexico
    North Carolina
    South Dakota
    Vermont
    Washington
    West Virginia
    Wyoming

    I count 15.
Most others allow it with certain restrictions or a carry permit.

pennsylvania I can open carry as long as I have my carry permit, but it wont change the fact that all the liberal soccer moms will freak out and call the po-po on my ass, and I'd probably get disorderly conduct anyway

Ohio has open carry without permit, but beware of "inciting panic" citations...
