Are any of the Japanese automakers near as good as they were 10-15 years ago?

    Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Nissan, Subaru...

It seems almost all the early 90's stuff was bulletproof..do any of them make as bulletproof a car as they used to..even close?

  2. I dunno, the oldest car I have is a 95 accord

    From an OT perspective:

Honda had nothing to speak of in the 90's, and came out with the S2000 in 2000. Toyota had the Supra from 93-98 and then nothing thus far. Nissan went from the Sentra SE-R and bankruptcy in the 90's to having the 350Z starting in 2003 and now the GTR coming. Subaru had nothing to speak of in the 90's and now is dominating with the STi.

The 80-90's cars are reliable but over rated. Their rep is mostly so high because of how shitty American cars were. Compared to newer cars older imports are tin cans.

Fair enough, do you think the new Japanese cars are as reliable as they were?

I just think people bitch about stuff more these days. Oh no the panoramic moonroof on my scion tC rattles. If you bought an entry level back in the day it was pretty fucking ghetto so I think nobody cared about small problems.

I have a 99 tacoma that I have tried to kill, but it keeps on kicking. I change the oil my self every 8-9k miles with synthetic and I have done the 100k maintenance my self. Other than that absolutely nothing has gone wrong and I drive it like a race car, which I know I shouldnt.

All the 90s stuff were actually Made in Japan. Now more than some parts are made in Mexico, Canada, U.S.

90's were the shit. Supra, MR2, 300Z, 3000GT, and so many more. Lexus came out with the 4.0L LS engine - won best engine. Reliability then > now.

My 06 Accord has been bulletproof. Of course it only has 25k miles on it so far.

Sold my 94 Accord with 130k on it, had a couple little issues above 100k, but it was a very solid car.

I hope this one's just as good.

I think that Jap cars made in the US today are not as good as the ones assembled in Japan

What an awful point of view. There are so many cars not mentioned and conceivably better than the newer shit.

Japanese cars 90s > new Japanese shit

my 92 accord(4th gen) is an awesome car and has stood up to so much abuse I am amazed everytime I get in and drive to work.
254,5xx miles and it keeps on going with regular maintenance.

I would love to find a modern replacement for it only rwd, 3k curb weight, 4 door sedan, 5 speed, more than the 135hp would be nice, same if not better handling and reliable. :hs:
