seems most of you have AR's, why did you choose that over an AK?

I have both and like different things about each one.

    AK:cheaper ammo,cheaper mags,easier to clean

AR: tack driving acurate, last round hold open, magazine catch and safety easier to operate.

    I have both :naughty:

I think more people choose AR15's for the coolness factor and ergonomics than anything else. It's scary looking, and feels great when you pick it up and bring it to your shoulder. Plus all our military and police badasses use them so it must be good, right? (that's sarcasm, don't try to grill me on it)

IMO The AK doesn't really have anything over the AR. That doesn't mean there not gun guns though. :dunno:
    Here are my ar's.

It has a lot of things over the AR... rifle cost, mag cost, ammo cost, reliability...

It's pretty much a given that the AR system is more accurate, but that's a tough argument to make if you're talking about a 14.5" barreled M4 lookalike that only provides enough velocity for the bullet to function properly inside 150 yards. Definitely better ergonomically though. Better mag release, safety, etc.

Reliability is a moot point. The AR has modularity going for it, I can take a quality lower and put 3 different uppers on it in 10 seconds. You can also put FF Hand guards on it for lasers, lights, bipods. Quallity of the gun is much higher,(most of the time), ammo. it's more accurate, it's easier to load, reload.

I have both. The AR is more ergonomic and the AK is more economic.

I think the AR is the best fighting platform for a carbine currently made.

Jam as a con shouldnt be listed, as you see, it's caused by the shitty magazine, not the rifle itself.

    btw AR>AK!

    But both are nice

    AK

Very simple design, very reliable. The less parts there are, the less things there are that can go wrong. And don't say they aren't accurate. I've been hearing of 1.5 MOA out of the box from the Arsnel Inc. SAM7.

when you tighten them up to make them that accurate, you cannot possibly maintain the AK's reliability. the inaccuracy comes from the op system and the loose tolerances. if you tighten that up, you can get some accuracy, but you'll never get out-of-the-box AR accuracy out of ANY AK.

I have both, and love both of them, but I like the AR better so far.

what's funny? Even the owner said the jams were caused by the shitty magazine?

A quality AR will be very reliable.

That's not the ONLY reason why an AR15 might jam. You can't rule out mag-related failures and then declare that reliability isn't an issue.

My AR is dependable IF I use Orlite mags.Any other mags and it becomes a high tech club.
