I just fired my first gun yesterday, SKS, AK, and some 12-gauge shotgun. I had a lot of fun and I was wondering what kind of AR15 should I buy or should I just put one together myself (If so what parts).

I'm looking for a nice price for a good gun, and decently cheap ammunition (Do not want to spend over 500 bucks). If this is too cheap, tell me. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

If you have no clue what you're doing buy an assembled gun. Rock River Arms makes good entry level AR-15s. You might also look into getting a Bushmaster.

$500 budget is kinda low for building an AR, if your thrifty you might be able manage to put something together for that price from arfcom ee forum. My last AR build cost me around $600ish after all was said an done with all parts and various shipping charges. If your building your own Stag, and RRA parts are the way to go, buying a complete rifle will be well over your $500 budget. Consider an AK if you want to keep it under $500.

If I ever get around to buying a lower, I will have built an A2, 20" hbar, with bushy 6 pos stock for about 515.

Thats pretty good, all new parts or some used stuff mixed in? Probably about what my last build cost before ffl fees and shipping fees couldn't find anyone selling all the parts i wanted so i ended up paying a shitload of money for shipping from various sellers :o

$500 is a pretty tough challenge for a AR15 and will certainly leave you like $0 for ammo. I'd encourage you to buy a sks or ak and a couple cases of ammo so you can have fun with your toy and start putting your change in the piggy bank for the ar15 and maybe build it slowly while you have something to shoot. Hell buy a sks, a case of ammo, an ar15 receiver and lower parts kit at the same time.

Stripped lower: $77 from Essential Arms
Complete A2 Upper kit (upper, lower parts kit, 4 position stock): $435 from Model1 Sales
    1 30 rd. mag: $10

$522 (not counting shipping or FFL fee) for a complete new AR ready to go, you assemble.

I paid $227 for my complete lower. I really need to find a cheap complete upper. If I could find one in good working order or piece one together for $300 I'd be ecstatic.

No, it's awesome, but their building burned down. Fire sale.

    It's what I have.

They use DPMS LPKs...and the upper and lower are to spec...not much else, amirite?

How does that work, do I give them the address of a FFL gun store and then pick it up from there....are there any fee's involved?

If you really want to build your own then the only thing you have to have transfered is the receiver. I'd say buy the receiver locally (if you can find someone that sells them for around $100) and then buy the rest of the parts online.

If anything, just buy a complete upper and lower separate. Cheaper than buying a completed one. Atleast that was how it was with my Stag.

I have seen 70s M16 parts kits from sarco for about $400 ish minus the receiver, and of course youd have to replace the trigger assembly.
    I am considering doing that
