Hey guys, I'm looking to purchase an ar15 soon. I tried researching what brands were good, but hear good and bad for almost every brand. Everyone seems to be pushing Bushmaster. All the local gun shops I go to say they start around $1000 plus options. I've found good prices online. Has anyone ever delt with atlanticfirearms.com? They seem to have decent prices. I also noticed some brands I haven't heard of and was wondering if you guys could shed some light on whether these brands are good or not. Vulcan Arms, Olympic Arms, DPMS, and armalite. Most of these brands have a gun in the $600-$800 range with what I want. Are they worth it or should i get a Bushmaster.

I am looking to use the gun for range shooting. It will be the first rifle I have owned. I have fired many rifles, but they were my father's at the time. I currently have a Glock 19, and have been shooting for about 6 months. I want to get into longer range shooting. I will probably purchase a scope a month or two down the road.

.223 seems to be the most common caliber and is probably the cheapest in regards to the larger calibers you can get with an ar15. So I'll probably stick with that. Again, just range shooting.

So, any recommendations would be awesome. I already checked out AR15 and found alot of good info, but there is alot to weed through. Just looking for some quick recommendations on brand, and where to buy.

    Thanks

vulcan is complete shit, i wouldn't buy an Oly, i have a DPMS lower on my AR and it's quality is great, I have a factory Armalite rifle and it's great too.

you should consider a Stag. i've seen them going NIB on the equipment exchange on ar15.com for $750. my friend bought one from him and it's good quality.

oh, and i'll whore a pic of mine:bigthumb:

I got my RRA (Rock River) $850 to my door and I am very impressed with it. I bought it from Legal Transfers on Ar15.com.
ARs are great rifles, easy to use and learn.

Thanks for the info. So Rock River Arms is decent as well? I've heard alot of mixed feedback on them. I'll check out DPMS and Stag..thanks for the info so far. Nice Ar's by the way.

Bushaster's for me. Well, the bottom one does have a LMT upper. I'd go RRA or DoubleStar; had DoubleStar in the past and they rock!

    http://www.star15.com/basics.htm

What do you guys think of this doublestar rifle. The bottom one, the StarCar Carbine.

    A-2 or flattop upper...................................$774.95

    Flattop w/ detachable carrying handle......$854.95

What would be the difference here? I'm sorry to sound like a noob, but I have no idea what this means.

I'de go with something like Bushy, RRA, or Stag, goto ar15.com then into the equipment exchange you can find a decent AR for those same prices.

I should have my late next week... I was hoping to have it this week, but someone's feeding me a bullshit story... and I doubt it's my FFL dealer. Oh well, still getting it 3-4 weeks earlier then I expected

I too have an Entry Tactical RRA from AR15Sales.com and I had to wait 8 weeks as well, but it was worth the wait, especially for the price.

I just got a bushmaster flat top last week, I love it.

A2 is a solid carry handle, flat top is pictanny rail that you can mount stuff to.

Flattop with a removable carry handle is a removable A2 handle that slides on the picctanny rail. That's how my bushmaster is

Picked up my bushmaster for $899+ tax from sportsmans warehouse

    Olympic has a bad rep.
That being said they have improved vastly over the last 5 years.

Case and point the finish used to look like someone put it on with a paint brush and the machining wasn't much better. This is why Olympic has a bad rep.

    What alot of people either
    A. Don't Know
    or
    B. Don't care ( people are stuborn )

Is that approx 5 years ago their factory burned down and they replaced everything with brand new equipment.

I plan on purchasing an ar15 very soon and after tons of research im going to buy a olympic they are vastly cheaper than every other brand, have a kick ass warranty, and arent really much differant they shoot as well and hold up as well Provided you purchase one made after 2001

I have an Oly 9mm Upper, no complaints about it, works well, finish looks just as good as the Bushy lower its attached to.

I have an AR on a doublestar lower with an upper kit that i got from J & T. Its a great rifle and i recomend both companies. My other AR is a DPMS lower with a J & T lower parts kit and a complete upper that i got of the EE on AR15.com. HAve you thought about building your own? I had the parts kit left over from the kit i got from J & T from my first rifle, I also had an A2 stock laying around so of course i had to get another rifle. With the cost of the stripped lower and the complete upper i bought i did the whole thing for $450 and its proalby my favorite rifle (20" plain jane AR as mentioned above).
