I am still not sure on what upper and what optics to get for the AR.

I know that I want either one of these uppers. Both has iron sights built into it. The big difference that I see is the height that the mount is on is different. I am not sure if I would want the higher or the lower one. Will that depend on what type of optics I put on it? What if the front sights interfer with the optics that I get? Do I need to get the higher one to ensure that the optics will go over the front sights? And will that mean that with the optics, the irons will pretty much be useless?

Or do I just get something like the one below? (the flat-top) And not even have the rear sights and just use optics. And if needed, I can just a flip up BUIS later on.

And one last thing, how will the height of the optics affect how I shoulder the rifle. I shot an Entry Tac with the removeable handle with only irons, and it was a bit awkward for me. Maybe I was not shouldering it correctly :dunno:

    Thanks.

It seems to me the best choice is the A4 flattop. You have more options that way. The other designs limit what setups you can put on.

this is the route I went. btw, when you order, make sure the dealer has items in stock, because the wait for RRA is a WHILE.

    Do what I did.

Get yourself a LaRue 12.0 with a low-profile gas block and order a set of folding Troy sights.

Or, go with the A4 flattop and put a GG&G folding rear sight on there (not too expensive).

    Thanks for the replies.

Ok, if I were to get the flat top and get a rear flip up BUIS...when I get the optics...wont the sight become pretty much useless?

No, what happens when zombies or ngas shoot at you and your optic fails?

The top mount (which is what I have) would be for like a AImpoint/Clone Reddot.
THe second one would be for a scope but still have rear sight

I went to the range yesterday and tried out my $20 Barska red dot on my AR. It worked really well. I would reccomend getting one if you dont want to spend alot on a reddot/scope

Which one is the top mount? The Entry Tac?

I am leaning more towards the flat top. Then getting a flip-up rear sight. And getting a clone red-dot for it. But when I get the mount for it, do I want the sight to look completely over the front iron sights?

If you are gonna get a red dot get the Entry tactical with that mount that is what its made for.

I wouldnt go flat top unless you were going with a scope.

I like the look of having those mounts on the flattop.

They actually have differnet mounts/rails, you can get an Eotech mount on the entry tactical too

A4 flat top and Troy BUIS. If you want to buy an Aimpoint or its Tacpoint knockoff down the road, a LaRue or ARMS mount will hold it so you can still use the iron sights through the red dot glass if you choose.

LMT and LaRue both make good non-folding BUIS if you don't want a flip one.

Almost all the accessories out there assume you have a flat top for maximum modularity. The weird UTE uppers address the issue of having to buy an iron sight, but limit your other options down the road.
