I need to pickup some more ammo for the range. I had some ultramax stuff that I bought the same time as the gun. I'm looking online at a few places like ammoman.com and found some wolf 1,000 rounds for $179. What do you guys use for plinking. I have a bushmaster and wolf is mentioned as a recommened type of ammunition in teh back of the manual. Do you guys think it is ok to use? It says the ammo is non-corrosive so it shouldn't damage the gun, but I just never heard great things about wolf for any of the other types of firearms I own. Just wanted to see what your inputs were.

    223 RUSSIAN 62gr. FMJ
    NEW POLYMER COATING
    BRAND NEW
    20 ROUND BOXES
    100% NON-CORROSIVE
    WOLF MANUFACTURE
    $179/1000 rounds

    223 RUSSIAN 55 GRAIN FMJ
    WOLF MILITARY CLASSIC
    FULL METAL JACKET
    NEW POLYMER COATING
    BRAND NEW - WOLF MANUFACTURE
    20 ROUND BOXES
    100% NON-CORROSIVE
    $179/1000 rounds

Which should I get if wolf is acceptable...and also whats the difference between the military classic and the top one aside from the 62grain vs 55grain? Is 62 ok to shoot for target practice?

Sorry to sound like a noob..but I don't want to mess up my gun.

Wolf is usually considered crappy ammo. Many don't like it because most of it is lacquer coated and the lacquer melts in the chamber, eventually gumming things up.

No denying it is cheap though and lots of people swear by it. You can usually find surplus or quality ammo for similar prices if you hunt around the ammo sections of forums (AR15.com, etc).

The heavier weights do better in faster twist rate rifling. You Bushy most likely has a 1/9 or 1/7 twist rate. (The bullet passing through the barrel makes 1 complete twist every X inches, so 1/7 is faster.) If you have a 1/9 barrel, 55gr will be more accurate than 62 but you could do either, vis versa the 1/7 barrel with 62gr.

    Winchester value packs.

You might be able to still get them from Wal-Mart

Go to the gun shows and look for XM855PD, or XM193PD. Make sure to inspect every cartridge you load into your magazines, I have found a few that have split necks, or bullets loaded too far into the brass.

I've run all varieties of Wolf through my AR no problems with it, but usually silver bear runs the same price I think its a bit better, its a little more consistant then Wolf less flyers.

I used Remington fmj to break the barrel in. After that, I bought a case of Radway Green.

Out of my mind, brb never.
Arfcom just did a poll on Radway, and how reliable it is. I think its just one of those stigmas that gets attached and never goes away. I have never had a problem with it (500+ rounds thru the M4gery)

WTF. Wolf is closing in on $200/1000! I havent bought .223 in months. Last I checked, Wolf was still in the $130-140 range.

But I shoot Wolf to plink. But sure on prices now, but WWB and American Eagle are both inexpensive and decent.

The thing with Wolf ammo is if you do decide to use it... clean your gun thoroughly every single time. Otherwise, like already stated, the shit will gum up. Wolf ammo is very dirty. You will also have more FTF/FTE and jams and stuff. But you get what you pay for.

It still goes *bang* (most of the time) and is still pretty accurate.
It's just not the best of quality. But if you can deal with a few jams here and there, you're alright.

Looks like I wont be using my ar as much as I had hoped when spring comes. I still have 40 rounds of Remington and all 720 rounds of Radway. Ill just go back to using my .22 and my mosin. I can still stockpile that pretty cheap :hs:

Thought the price would go down after time, but looks like it will just continue to get higher. They raise it any more and people will just go to better brands for a couple more cents. This shit is ridiculous

yeah, even though i don't shoot .223, ammo across the board is going up. A few ammo dealers at gun shows mentioned it about 2 years ago, but i blew it off to trying to make a sale. Turns out they were right. Ammo prices have been steadily increasing across the board for about a year now. Hopefully whenever we pull out of IRAQ, we'll see a little lowering in the ammo prices. :x:

I get the 1000 packs of Wolf. Use it in all my guns and love it. The new polymer stuff is really nice, does not gum up like the old shit. Oh and I usually get it from Ammoman, great company to deal with. Bought a lot of ammo from them and never had a problem.:)

    Sounds like my Wal-mart nearby.
First they stopped selling shotguns... then rifles.
Now, if I'm extremely lucky, they MIGHT have 1 or 2 boxes of WWB on the shelf.
Next... it'll be just like your Wal-Mart(s)... no more ammo either.

Don't cheap out on ammo because it'll lead to problems. I only put XM193 through my rifle for plinking.
