My Bushmaster carbine weighs next to nothing. When I shoot it, it bounces around. I was wondering what a good muzzle brake is that I could install at home. Price doesnt matter ( its christmas time ) so give me some options. I was looking at the Bushmaster izzy but on their website, states that a gunsmith needs to put it on.

    any suggestions?

ok looks like its threaded on there dont see any setscrews, thats not a brake its an A2 flashhider. I dont see why you wouldnt be able to put the izzy brake on yourself as long as its also threaded, I think they just say has to be done by a smith to cover there asses. only brakes on any of my uppers is 5.5 and ak74 style brake, its loud as fuck with that, otherwise i got vortex FH's.. I've never really had any problem with mine bouncing around though..

No offense, but forget the brake and bear down on the rifle a little more.

i will try that next time im out. i was watching a sniper video from iraq and the guys in our military were popping off rounds from a bench almost, and there was little to no muzzle jump at all.....didnt know if they had some high quality brake or what... and i know they had heavier barrels and whatnot, but still ...

nevermind, im just a picky bitch

If it was set screw on there would be a few screws around the base holding onto the barrel they would most likely have allen key heads.

muzzle brakes are worthless on ARs. plus it makes it loud as hell. i'd just get some lead wheel weights and stick them under your handguards, between the actual handguards and the heat shield, if you want more weight.

if you are really want a muzzle break, get the y-comp from bushy or the AK break. The y-comp is very loud though. Well, i guess it's not louder than normal, it's just that the sound is directed back to you and the sides. People shooting next to you will hate you.

PS, what is the length of your rifle? 16"? 14.5"+FH? 20"?

If it's 14.5"+FH, that means that A2 FH is pinned in. You're going to need a gunsmith to dremel the pins out.

If it's 16" or 20", it should just unscrew.

Learn to control your rifle. The 5.56 round through an AR gas system makes nearly no recoil. You just don't have the trigger time to control it. Any other rifle would be far, far worse.

Tuck it in your shoulder tighter.

Or run a few clips through a Garand each range session before shooting your AR.

i usually shoot my mosin or my sks before my AR-- it makes the recoil seem so negligable

QFT. i believe a 14.7" barrel w/ the A2 hider brings it to the correct minimal length, 16".

still might not be pinned on could be threaded and tack welded in place maybe bushy's dont come that way but I've seen other uppers with 11.5 barrel and 5.5 threaded and tacked in place.
