After messing with my optic-less ARs, I've decided my middy is a pig at 9.6lbs with a loaded mag and needs to shed some weight. I'm considering selling my EOTech 553 and replacing it with an Aimpoint Micro T1 which would take off about 10 ounces. I'm also thinking of dumping the Surefire M85 rail which weighs 22 ounces and replacing it with a Troy MRF-M which only weighs 15 ounces. In total, the rifle would lose just over a pound. Any other ideas to lighten this fatty?

  2. Other than ditching the optic all together, going to plastic/ composite handguards, or getting a lighter barrel, you've pretty much got it figured out.

Chop your barrel down so that it and the flash hider are 16".

Replace iron sights with Magpul MBUS models.

  10. The grip holds the detent and spring for the safety. I guess that's unnecessary too, along with the safety. :mamoru:

    saw off what isn't necessary

  12. You really don't need handguards. Just hold the magwell when you fire.

Turns out the YHM midlength rail is 2oz lighter than the Troy and is less than half the cost.

I'd rather find fault in those around me than to improve myself.
