I want to buy an ORIGINAL XM-177E2 upper for an AR or M-16. Must have the ATF registered Flash Hider. Anybody know where to find one beside Shotgun News.

keep an eye out on the AR15.com equipment exchange. you have to register the thing twice, since it's a short barrel AND the "suppressor" (gay ATF).

Yeah I am trying to get one through right now without having to pay 2 stamps. That pisses me off. The friggin thing actually adds like a decibel to the report of the gun. What a bunch of B.S.

Actually, if you get a flash hider that is a little longer than normal, and voila, you have a 16" barrel. I dont see how noise and a flash hider have anything in common though.....

The Military developed the XM series for commando units. The shortened barrel created a lot of noise so the came up with this flash supressor that also decreased muzzle noise. In the 70's the ATF declared that the flash hider drowned enough of the muzzle blast to consider it a silencer thus having to register it.

Either way I want an original one for my collection. I could careless if I it goes on a lower or not.
