I posted about this a while back and got a lot of good advice, now that I'm getting a tax return its about time to get me an AR.

I'm likely going to go with the Stag Arms Super Varminter because it has all the components I'm looking for in one package, lifetime warranty etc... anyway it's going to need a scope and I'm not as informed as a lot of you guys on the subject.

Its a 5.56 so its obviously not going to need a scope as burly as say a .30-06 but as far as distance I'll be shooting at my local range has a 100yard range, if I join the gun club I'll have access to a 200yard range and when I go out to the desert I can shoot as far as I want. but most of my shooting will be at 100-200 yards, I just want the option to go farther when I get the chance.

I'm not looking to spend a huge amount of money on it but I also don't want something that sucks and I'm gonna have to replace when I realize I don't like it. I'm thinking of a 12x, does this sound about right?

I'll be mostly bench shooting with a bipod if it makes a difference.

anyway this is what I'm probably gonna go with.

If your only shooting out to 200 then a 1x4 variable would be ideal. If you wanted more power I would say 3x9 would be the most for out to 400 yards.

I'd get one of these instead.

Nikon Buckmaster 3-9 is what I just bought for my AR and it was only $150.

I am willing to bet that squirrel was shot with a different gun. Using a .308 on a rabbit will literally shred it apart.

i second the super sniper. www.swfa.com
it has very good reviews and is very nicely priced.

btw the super sniper is a swfa exclusive, so there is no middle man, which should make the price lower than other comparable scopes.

Nice, the burris 3-9x40 and the super sniper are both just about what I was looking for as far as price range.

For cheap I'd go with a Burris or Bushnel elite 3200 fixed power.

I'd say either Bushnell 3200 if you want higher magnification, Millet DMS-1 for lower magnification.

wow, for the price the Millet TRS-1 is fucking incredible. as far as magnification its totally overkill for me but you can get em for under $300 so I just might have to pick one up, if its too much I can always save it for my .308 if I ever get one.

    +1 for Millet TRS-1

a 1-4x optic would be your best bet.

for more money, you can look at the Schmidt & Bender 1.1-4x20 or Nightforce 1-4x24

quick price list from this thread: http://www.ak47.net/lite/topic.html?b=3&f=18&t=330730

    Short Dot - ~$2200
    Meopta - ~$700 (and climbing)
    IOR - ~$700 (and climbing)
    Burris - ~$500
    Millett - ~$250
    GRSC - ~$350 (introductory price)
    NightForce - ~$1200
    Leupold - ~$800 (illuminated model)
    Trijicon - ~$550
    US Optics SN-4 - ~$1350 (illuminated model)
US Optics SN-4S - ~$1250 (illuminated slimline model)

so I bought a Millett TRS-1 4-16X50 Illuminated Mil Dot

I know its overkill as far as magnification but I'll have the option for very long range shooting when I go out to the desert and 4-10 will do for the range if I can get in on the local 250m range. I'm gonna play around with it before I install it just to see how I like it. I may end up sending it back for a less powerful scope :dunno:

so the reason for going with an AR as opposed to a Remington 700 is that the AR is semi-auto where the remmy is bolt action :dunno:

for me? yeah, its just for target shooting and long range "plinking" when I go camping. I'm not ruling out a Remington 700 in the future though. also when I go camping a lot of my friends don't shoot often and we have girls that love to shoot but are more intimidated by larger calibers so the Stag Arms Model 6 is a perfect gun for this. we have a .30-06 but wanted a semi for the group, really this is just for fun, we like to set up a range with a few targets really far away and see who can hit em first.

I plan on expanding my collection over the next few years this just caught my eye.

I mean is it an AR? I was assuming it was lol :mamoru:

anyway I just talked to the guy at Lan World Inc and he says that my FFL should have the rifle by wed next week. but then I still gotta fill out the paper work and wait 10 days, at least I can do that the day it ships.

waiting period ftmfl, I want my rifle now
