Most of you probably already know I bought l4zy's free-float rail, and also sent me a spare standard gas block/front sight.
Well my brother and I went to town on it and chopped it all up and got it ready to be a low-pro gas block. Then we took off the flash hider and the crappy stock block that I had on the rifle (M&P15 OR).

Here lies my dilemma. Once we took off the factory gas block, I realized the barrel was drilled for only one taper pin, not 2 like the standard gas block l4zy gave me. So what do I do? I really don't feel like drilling 2 holes in my barrel.

Here are my crappy cell phone pics for reference.

Put it on with one taper pin?

If my shit can be held in place by set screws, one pin should do the trick.

Is there a reason you can't cut down your old gas block? I realize it's not an A2 front sight but it should work the same way. That's pretty retarded that they would only drill one for a taper pin, doesn't make a lot of sense.

Your other option is to take it to a gun smith and have them toss it in a jig and use the proper taper bit.

I guess you could replace the one pin that fits and lock-tite a nut and screw in the other one. The block wouldn't come off so long as the one tapered pin stayed in which shouldn't be a problem.

Yes, it's a gas block with picatinny rails on it. What's stopping you from cutting it down to the just above the gas tube?

It's too blocky and to be honest, I'd rather buy a low-pro that's designed for this than cut down the square chunk of metal my gun came with.
The standard A2 sights are perfect for making a low-pro gas block, the one my gun came with is not.

Dude, it's not that I can't do it, obviously I just chopped up a standard A2 sight and it's fine, it's the fact that this square thing would be way too much work for what it's worth. And I still don't think the FF rail would fit over it anyway.

I just reread your OP, I thought the barrel was drilled for two pins, one taper and one straight :o I'd just put the one in.

Do aftermarket gas blocks have one taper pin or two?

Alright, I'm trying to put the A2 block on and seeing if it'll hold tight with just one taper pin pushed in...
