Whats an optimal sight for an AR with a 14.5 barrel...I'm thinking an Aimpoint of some type...any suggestions?

    You can shoot a 14.5" bbl 500m.

    It's very subjective.

ACOG, Aimpoint, EOTech, never gonna go wrong.

  4. If you're interested in shooting inside 100 yards mostly, then you don't need magnification. An Aimpoint or an EOTech would likely serve you best. If you can, try out each type before you buy. Personally, I like (and run) an Aimpoint in a LaRue mount.

I absolutely love my 1.25X4 Accupoint. I have an ACOG also that I like a lot, I need to get it sighted in though (no spotting scope ftl).

The new hot set up is the trijicon accupoint TR24. This is the scope that has the go fast crowd nutting their pants.

It's the casv-el version since it covers the front site post.

Some of it is preference. On the accupoint line there are two major reticles types. There is the "triangle" and some sort of crosshair. The triangle is has a large post running up to a triangle tip in the center. I call it the "middle finger of death" because you put the middle finger to give a big fuck you to whatever your making holes in. I really like the recticle for short range at 1x because it's real fast. The post kind of reminds me of a front sight which my brain understands and makes it real easy to find the illuminated triange. The triangle has a pointed tip which is great when you got it dialed up to 4x for shooting at 400 yards. Where the post is not so great is that it covers up the target if you are using a long range hold over.

If you were building a more dedicated long range rifle with scope to match I like the cross hair recticles for that. I run the trijicon accupoint tr20 3x9 mil dot on my ar.

I'm using red, and have a green on order. I "think" the amber would be OK, but it does seem to wash out a little easier on one of my other optics.

that's what i was thinking, wonder how green would fare with a forest backdrop. red seems like it'd be the best all around

it depends on how your eyes are wired. To be honest all the colors trijicon offers work. You can also adjust the brightness by closing the window a bit on the fiberoptic collector.

My personal take is that red is the fastest. Amber is best for precision. I have run both and can shoot either.

I have found that the red can bloom if lighting conditions change ex was cloudy than sun comes out. If your shooting long range precision under a timer and this happens it kind of sucks. The amber pretty much never blooms.

If your shooting 3 gun at brown paper targets i have heard that the amber can wash out. I don't really believe this but i have a short range red dot sight for paper targets anyway.

The green I don't know. I never shot one under match conditions. The green is different enough that I don't think it would wash out if shooting against a green backdrop. For sure i don't think it would bloom. Honestly from only looking though it at the shot show I don't see why you would go green over red.

For a short to medium range AR i would do the tr24r. For a long range ar the tr20-2 (the one i'm rocking)

I have an EoTech 516, plus a Magpul MBUS rear sight, and it works great for me.
