Alright guys, I was going to replace the front site on my Bushmaster AR with a folding one, and also wanted to get a supressor down the line....but the money I'd have to pay a smith, plus the time without the rifle makes me think I should just build one. I figure I should since who knows what will happen this fall.

Anyway, I found the AR15 guide to building one.
    http://www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=4&t=226782

Doesn't look to bad, I'll have to pick up a few tools, but I'd rather do that and build one exactly like I want rather than buy one not exactly how I want it.

Anyway, I'm looking for some recommendations on parts. Overall, I'm looking to spend between $700-$900(at most) for just the rifle. No optics, no magazines. Just the essentials. Is that possible? What lower would you guys recommend? Who makes the best one? I want a barrel that is already threaded for a suppressor for the future, along with no front site, so I can attach a folding front. I plan to use an optic...probably an acog or aimpoint or something. Anyway, what do you guys recommend brand wise for the lower, upper and barrel? Just looking for some guidance here.

    Thanks.

    **edit**

I'd like to keep it in 5.56/223 caliber...but if there is a cheaper alternative I'll consider it.

you can do a full LMT build for under $1,000. If i were going to do another carbine build it's what i would do

LMT is good? I really have no idea. When I order the upper and lower, do they need to be shipped to a ffl? I have no idea how this works.

the lower will, because its the part with the serial. everything else can be shipped to your house.

and yeah, LMT is probably one of the best you can get next to Colt or Noveske which are a little bit out of your price-range.

they're probably fine - personally I wouldnt pay anymore for the custom design. really any lower receiver will fit your needs - stag, cmmg, spikes. if you wanted to pay a little more you could get an LMT lower, but i dont think you'd notice the difference (i wouldnt)

lowers are lowers. get one either full or learn to put it together yourself (so you know how to maintain the rifle)

then just get a full complete LMT upper.

Probably could be done for under $1k

Aim has CMMG lowers, lowers with parts installed, and lower parts kit. Your choice.... one cent shipping. Just find a FFL for the lower.

I am slowly building a spikes lower (got in on a deal they were offering a few months ago) to my flavor ... used a cmmg parts kit and magpul grip from aim.... again for one cent shipping.

I still have a Essential Arms lower sitting around in nearly complete (with Magpul parts) if you would like that...

For uppers... Get one that's threaded 1/2x28 (that's the most common), as that would probably have the best chance of working with your supressor aspirations.

As far as make/model/etc.... that's a whole 'nother can of worms that people could/do type books about. LMT isn't a bad place to start though....

i built a complete upper not too long ago.

    Pretty easy.

Personally, i would buy the lower locally. Usually with shipping and FFL fee, it should be very close. I'll rather have that money support the locals. But the uppers and such. You'll find much better deals online.

Also check out the EE. People are always unloading their stuff. You can find some great deals. Or at least, good deals. Savings!

maybe if you're getting 6.5G or something.

but 5.56 vs. .223wylde(sp)? yeah, no reason NOT to go 5.56mm
