So, after finally getting to shoot an AR my friend pieced together a couple weeks ago I have decided to build my own. I'd love input on parts selection and suggestions/comments are always welcome. This isn't quite a budget build but its not a crazy all out build either.

Lower - Mega Machine Gator- Ordered
Upper - Mega machine w/ M4 cuts- Ordered
Charging Handle - BCM Gunfighter (still deciding if I want the large or medium)
LPK - DPMS with Bill Springfield 4lb trigger job - Ordered
Grip - Magpul MIAD Full Kit
Stock - ARFX ACE (may go with the entry length one or an A1 buttstock)
Barrel - Daniel Defense 1:7 16" carbine barrel M4 profile (the one on sale at BCM)
    Gastube - Carbine Length
Gasblock - Larue Low Profile (willing to sub it for a cheaper one if it will fit under the rail)
Rail System - Larue 11.0 (undecided on length but I enjoy the aesthetics of the 11/16 combo...suggestions welcome!)
    BUIS - Troy Battle Sights
BCG - BCM Complete Auto BCG (why do they only offer the FA version? Not set on this either... suggestions welcome)
Compensator -PWS FSC556 (pinned/welded... NYS AWB)
    Misc - Magpul BAD
Misc - KNS Mod 2 Anti Rotation Pins - Ordered

Other - 10rd Mags, Cleaning Supplies, Eyes/Ears (suggestions welcome), Case(suggestions?), etc

I think thats everything. Hows that look? When mounting my buis does is the length of my railed handguard going to throw things off? I have tools and the AR specific ones I can borrow from my friend.

Looks like a nice build. I'd stick with the FA BCM bolt carrier group on your list, it's regarded as one of the best out there right now (BCM is also a good company to order your other parts from). The quality of the ACE stocks is nice, although I would suggest a good collapsable like the Magpul CTR (not possible in NY?) to give you some flexibility, especially if you haven't had an opportunity to shoulder the rifle and find a comfortable fit. I would hesitate to get the entry model ACE unless you're sure you are comfortable shooting with it as it is very short to accomodate body armor and such.

-If you get the Gunfighter CH, get a large, it will pinch your finger less.
-The ACE A1 length will be really long unless you're like 6'6"
-Troy sights are nice, but if you plan on getting an optic down the road, just get a set of MBUS, they are lightweight and cheap.
-They only sell the auto BCG...well because most of the people that buy them want them. It really makes no difference. I like them because I can toss my upper onto a machinegun and run it with no problems. For most people it won't make the slightest difference as long as you get a carrier with a shrouded fireing pin.
    -KNS pins are uselss IMO
-The Daniel Defense rails are nice, check those out, I prefer them to the LaRue, but they are both nice.
-Generally a longer sight radius is a good thing.

Get all of your parts from LaRue or you're a faggot.

-The ACE A1 length will be really long unless you're like 6'6"

My friend has the ace and I've only shot it from the bench.. did seem long. 5'6.... Entry length it is... Someone suggested Entry Length with a 1in buttstock spacer.

-Troy sights are nice, but if you plan on getting an optic down the road, just get a set of MBUS, they are lightweight and cheap.

Yeah... the troys came down in price a bit ($200 a set) but MBUIS are about $100 a set which is tempting... and it puts me $100 closer to a nice optic.

    -KNS pins are uselss IMO

I bought em for aesthetics... TACTICOOL

    - I would suggest a good collapsable like the Magpul CTR (not possible in NY?)

Collapsible stocks are a no go in NY unless you build on a pre-ban receiver

Its apparently legal but none of the local smiths are willing to do it. I think rainier and adco can pin it for me...

So, I did a bit of research on midlength setups and I'm trying to find a reasonably priced one. BCM has a std 16" barrel for $229 and a Cold Hammer Forged version for $299. Opinions?

I should restate... If I move its gonna be for a job. The big states for my industry are NY/NJ/PA/CA/NC/SC/MD. The jobs are most abundant in NY/NJ/CA. Trust me.. I'd love to back to MD or PA... or give the Carolinas a go but its hard finding work.

North Carolina is a beautiful state. I could move to TN anytime I wanted and move onto my grandad's 17 acres that I will inherit one day. Its just rural as fuck and there are no GOOD jobs.

Last I heard, RTP (research triangle park for those not in NC) has not really taken much of a hit in the economy decline.

Its not too hard to do yourself. You can order it, fit it how you want and pin it.
