I want to put some sort of optics on the top rail, and a light of some sort, and maybe a forward hand grip, under the front hand guard.

Can I find something like this stock somewhere, or would I have to replace the hand guard around the barrel aftermarket?

YHM makes a pretty good rail. I plan on getting their light weight carbine length one, i think its anywhere from $100 to $120.

Or, if you want, you can spend 3x that and get Daniel Defense or a LaRue. Knights Armament and S.I.R.'s are also excellent but will cost you.

They can be self-installed, but pick up the delta ring tool at a gun show.

So if I were to get a regular Armalite carbine, I could easily remove the handguard and replace it myself?

Ok. I have some mechanical experience fixing cars and minor home remodeling. But am a gun newb for the most part.

Looking at getting an AR and adding a few tactical items for a good home defense weapon.

The Dring is just a bitch because you either need the tool, or a third hand

Don't worry about it, untill I built my AR, I only had experience working a little on cars and on my computer. Works perfectly :dunno:
