Looking into getting one, and was wondering if there were some recommendations on what some of the better buys are. This will be my first rifle, and while I've fired a few before, I'm new to rifle shooting....so this is just for some fun at the range.

I'm not looking for anything competition grade, but figured buying one of the cheapest models out there might not be the best idea...so any suggestions for what the best quality for the price buy is?

I saw Hooligan bought a S&W MP15OR for around $800 not too long ago, and was considering that. Seems on the lower end price wise, but from a trusted name.

    Thanks. :wiggle:

POF would be my choice, comes with everything you will ever need, piston upper, timney trigger all the goods.

Checking out the website now, thanks for the suggestion

Edit: Everything I'm finding is like $1300+....outside of my price range. :( Looking for something around $850 or less hopefully, definitely under $1k

I absolutely LOVE my S&W MP15. Got it for $799 and it's been great. Got 3 mags with it, too.

My next AR I will build myself... but for a no-fuss "here's cash now giveme an AR" I would say the S&W MP15 is an excellent value.

Checking them out, thanks...although I think Bushmasters are a little pricey (as far as I'm concerned anyway)?

Two of the 3 I've shot were Bushmasters though.

S&W or CMMG would be nice for you.

if you can find an LMT for under 1k, buy it.

Are the bargain bins good quality guns? That could be used for more important roles...say LEO backup?

Seems of all the suggestions posted (with the exception of the bargain CMMG rifles, which apparently you can't get any more) the S&W is the cheapest.

I'll probably end up going with that when I decide to spend the money.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

edit: unless anyone has some names not yet mentioned? I've seen ARs for sale in the $600 range, but figured the extra couple hundred might be worth it for a more quality product...unless the differences are really negligible :dunno:

S&W rebate ends later this month if you decide to get one of those. I'd go with an LMT lower and upper and bolt carrier but it's gonna be a little over $1000. Grant will take care of you if you order from him.

Just let him know your intentions and he'll probably recommend the S&W for a basic rifle.
