So my ar-15 is still back ordered but should be here in a week or 2. I'm getting a Stag Arms Model 6L Super Varminter (24" stainless bull barrel, bipod a4 stock, floating handguard, etc). anyway I want to pick some ammo and stick with it so I don't have to re adjust my scope every time I get something different.

should I go for surplus 5.56mm? if so what kind, I want high velocity/accuracy but can't use steel core at the range. where would I get non steel core surplus?

then there is some high grain .223 maybe match grade like 60-75 grain lead? the stuff I've been looking at is expensive though :sad2:

75Gr 5.56 tap will get you 3000 fps out of a 24" barrel I would bet. That gun your getting has a 1n8 twist so you can shoot the heavy bullets.

if I was shooting distance I'd shoot Gold Medal or Black Hills Match or something along those lines. Actually, I'd just load my own :o

well shit, I guess I'll just get some 75 grain then. I forget the brand but thats what did the best in the test the guy did in Guns and Ammo :o I think he got just over .5 moa

Black Hills Ammunition 223 Remington 75 Grain Match Hollow Point Box of 50: for $38 :dunno: is that a decent price?
from midway, I usually buy from them because I can always split shipping with a friend if they need shit.

they have remanufactured stuff for a lot less but I've never shot re manufactured ammo so I don't know what to expect from it.

I'm still new to this but I can see myself hand loading ammo eventually, esp if I get another rifle.
