Is it safe to fire a shot with the dust cover closed?

A friend and I were talking about going camping when it gets warmer and I was thinking I'd have to keep the dust cover closed in that environment. Would it be safe to fire with the cover initially closed. I know the bolt moving rearward will open the cover -- but would this increase pressure or otherwise be unsafe?

    no,it will be fine
but, as soon as fire again, the empty will knock the door open.
its basicly for storing/carrying the rifle

yea i was hoping it would be safe to fire from a closed-cover position, and I understand the cover will remain open from there. When done shooting I can close the cover.

My concern is being able to carry "condition 1" and keep the elements from getting into the important bits.

Doesn't the notch in the bolt open it?

Yeah... Cycling the bolt manually will open the cover I think.

uh, yeah. It's not the "bullet" that "knocks" it open. Your bolt does that when it gets cycled from firing. So yes, you can carry cond 1, I do myself.

Just think about it, when you go to charge the bolt, your door flings open without a bullet.

there would be no problem firing with the dust cover closed. if you're worried about something damaging the rifle think about the process - after pulling the trigger the bolt cycles then the brass ejects. when the bolt cycles the dust cover pops open so your brass can fly out and hit your buddy in the face.

when you're done shooting close the cover :wavey:

When the pressure from the fired round blows the bolt back, itll open the cover...the brass will eject after its open.

No way having that cover closed will affect the pressure :o

i've decided that the people on offtopic are all assholes, and are on here because they have no real friends because they never give anyone advice or try to help they just say something stupid even though nobody laughs. it really doesn't make sense why they would do this, but they do it anyway. this is why they are here. they figure that if they post 1000000000 times, at least they will have respect on the internet. i've noticed that the more posts somebody has, the more of an asshole they are. this is your fate. i've posted many times about what to major in and other random college questions. the only people that ever give a legit answer are those without an avatar and under 1k posts. also, you always ask for "pics" like you really care that much. go into google and type "hot blonde girl". the results will be the same as if I showed you the real picture. seriously. you guys have taught me one lesson, which of course is that i just dont fit in here because i like to give good advice.
