Do you guys clean the gas tube above the barrel, and if so, how do you? I cleaned the AR to remove the test fire residue and I skipped that gas tube. I read on someones FAQ that they put the nozzle of a can of carb cleaner in there and hosed it down liberally.

    What do you guys recommend?

You can use solvent on a small pipe cleaner. I don't clean my gas tube at all, since any time enough crud builds up to be a problem, it blows out.

don't. The hole point of the setup is that the gas tube is self cleaning. If something gets in there and stays in there while you are cleaning, it is just going to get dropped onto the bolt carrier. Compressed air makes sense, but personally, that is as far as I would go.

where are you finding compressed air in the 30-40k PSI range that is any better than the gasses naturally emitted from the firing process that blow through said tube?

Yup. Compressed air or carb cleaner. Otherwise, just leave it alone.

You're just looking to blow any possible carbon crud out of there, not trying to cycle the action with it!

what makes you think there's a possibility of carbon crud in there to begin with. whatever amount is in there is extremely minimal. i'm yet to hear of anyone's AR jamming from the tube being clogged.
