The uhh...drug use portion of it. What if you've smoked pot a handful (3 or so) times in the past few years.. they want you to be completely drug free for the previous 3 years before applying.. so what's the status quo here? does eveyrone just lie about it and hope they dont ask about it on the polygraph?

How about if I tell them that I have smoked pot a few times in the past few years? Am I automatically out? I'll have my Bachelors Degree, NO criminal record whatsoever, one speeding ticket is all.

Don't lie, be honest. Most places do have some leeway when it comes to "experimentation", but it depends.

SOME places its an auto DQ. Palo Alto PD for example.

Others it may just be some marks off. But hell, might as well go for it. And yea, dont lie.

Just be honest and say you experimented a couple times (3) and that you didn't like it and never had the desire to try it again.

Almost anywhere you go, they EXPECT you to have done something bad earlier in life, and will forgive you, so long as it wasn't a violent offense, wasn't within a certain timeframe, and you tell the truth about it.

The exception to this is dealing drugs. Nowhere I've ever applied has had a policy that allows someone to work there if they've ever been an addict or a dealer of drugs.

If you lie about it, they'll find out. Think about it...they're not just going to skip that question on the polygraph. Passing the pee test is the most important part of the hiring process for some places, and they'll forgive just about anything else.

They probably don't believe people like me when I say that I've never done an illegal drug in my life. I have taken things from employers, though, and I carry in places barred by law every day. When it asks if you've committed any undetected crimes, that's the kind of crap you have to put down. If you're not honest, they'll just ask you the same stuff on the polygraph, and you'll possibly fail.

If you did it during your childhood/adolescence, you're pretty much clear. If you did it sometime in the last week, you're probably screwed.

From what I have seen, fess up to trying it, but just admit to minimal use.

    Some places won't care.

When my buddy went into the Navy they asked him how many times he smoked weed, and he said "everyday for the last year and half, up until recently", they said "Oh. Put that you smoked it twice, ever". He runs a nuke reactor on a ship now, so...

From a govt POV. they seem to not care what you've done in the past as long as its not still going on.
