I'm no stranger to longguns.. but never shot a pistol..

Applied for my CCW yesterday (its coming in the mail), and tomorrow I'm going to order a Bulgarian Makarov.

Why a Bulgy Mak? Reliable, small, ammo is relatively cheap, low price, and I'm on a limited budget.

i was thinking of going with a P95, but the Mak will work better for daily carry, and I'll have an extra benjamin to buy ammo with :eek5:

    I'm excited :noes:

Congrats! I bet ~10% of the CWP population carries a Mak. They are great, reliable, little guns!

The only changes I'd make would be to buy a better set of grips (Pearce) and maybe have some sights put on. The stock ones kinda suck.

Make sure that your mags are in tip top shape when carrying. They are cheap anyway, but invest and make sure you have a good 2-3 for serious work.

How did you get a CCW without some sort of training class? Im assuming that since you have never shot a pistol, you have not had a CCW class. In Michigan anyways we need to have a certain course to apply for a CCW.

Dude, not every state works that way. In GA, you need no classes to get a carry permit.

First thing I'm going to do is completely strip the gun, soak the parts in soapy boiling water, then deep clean them with some good solvent.. light coat of lube, put the bastard back together, throw it in a nice Don Hume IWB, and I'm on my way

You're ordering a pistol without ever having shot a one?

Okay, the next thing to do, is find a good, strong pull-ring to run through the magazine release. That way, you can actually drop a mag if you need to replenish your blaster. With something that size, you should carry a spare mag, always. I carry one for my G19.

I forget where my friend got his pull ring. It's basically like a keychain ring, which would also work, but a little lighter guage metal, and probably easier to run through the mag release. Without it, releasing the mag sucks. With it, it's nothing at all. You pull the ring, mag comes out.

Good choice, I carried a Mak when I first got my CCW in Ohio. I know it's your first handgun but have you shot many handguns before? Maks are bad guns to lean shooting with because the recoil is so snappy, though you'll learn to deal with it. You might think about renting a .22 just to work on your technique. I would recommend FMJ because 9x18 isn't all that powerful and HP's don't penetrate that great.

Funny thing is, I have the same setup as Ukraine Train.
Same holster and same grips...I cut the finger grooves off though.
