Check your event log and see what application is hanging up if doable or do from safe mode and check past events svchost.exe is used for DLL purposes I think so you might have a virus/spyware or corrupted software that needs to be removed and reinstalled. (ie: startup items that automatically start at boot)

You get an error at start up meaning a post boot program is hanging or corrupted or you have a virus possibly. If you cannot get into the event manager from windows then you might have to start safe mode up and get in that way. Reboot, hit F8 as the computer starts up...

I've seen this error and the only way I know of to fix it is a Windows repair or clean install.

Microsoft's explanation is that the program, in this case svchost.exe, is not compatible with the OS. This is a bs explanation b/c a few times I've seen it the program causing the issue was explorer.exe.

But seriously, run memtest to check your RAM. If that comes back clean then I would recommend a clean install....

I know my memory checked out fine when I was having that issue. It also happened to a few of the computers at my job at the time. I ended up just reinstalling Windows and never saw it again. The computers at my old job still were having the error issue when I left, no clue if they ever fixed them.

clean install means reinstalling windows but wont solve your problem if you have a hardware issue.

http://www.memtest86.com/download.html download an ISO, burn to cd and boot with it. Another one I use called DocMem

I wouldn't personally but thats up to you. Fresh copy ensures problems are gone probably but just means you have to back up all your data and start all over.

    Open control panel
    Double click systems
Then -advanced tab - performance - settings
    Click advanced - virtual memory

Is it set to custom or system managed?

How about windows updates are they setup to auto or manual? Right my computer, then properties, auto updates
