First I HATE buying electronic related stuff on ebay, just not a fan of it and I'm always worried about getting burned. Second I hate having to drop the price of a nice handgun on applecare from the apple store so here I sit wondering if there is another way to do this so that I don't get burned (ebay) and don't blow $500 (buying apple care for 2 macs) from apple.

Onto snow leopard, I read here that I only need to buy one copy of SL even if I want to upgrade more then one mac? is this correct

I would assume so seeing as there is no serial that is given per disc. If one of your friends have the disc, you could use it, and visa-versa.

You can get applecare on ebay, just read their reviews. Most that I have looked into have had great feedback. I bought my mobileme subscription from there and havn't had an issue and saved $75.

In theory you could install SL on as many macs as you wanted with the same disk.
