Apple releases Mac OS X 10.3.8

    Apple has posted downloads for Mac OS X 10.3.8 and Mac OS X Server 10.3.8 on its website today.

    According to the release notes, the updates "deliver improved compatibility and reliability for Mac OS X v10.3 'Panther' and is recommended for all users." Key enhancements include: improved OpenGL technology and updated ATI and NVIDIA graphics drivers; enhanced file sharing and directory services for mixed Mac and PC networks; improved compatibility for third party applications and devices, and previous standalone security updates.

    funny how it's supposed to help with random fan spinning on g5's...now that i've updated, i get more intense fan spin-ups and downs for such nothing actions (i.e. launching bbedit sounds like a rocket taking off)

    I'm going to hold off a bit on installing this update on my PowerMac G5. Have read some about some people having issues arise with their fans.

    i found something of a solution:
    System Preferences->Energy Saver->3rd tab->set your processor performance to "high" rather than auto

    much fewer hard rev ups, probably due to no switches from low processor performance to high performance

    yeah, since I've updated the LED on the front of my G5 no longer lights up.
