Last week, Dell recalled 4.1 million laptop computers containing Sony batteries because of the potential for overheating. Sony expects the recalls will cost the company between $172 million and $250 million, according to the announcement.

Apple owners should call (800) 275-2273 between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. Central Time from Monday through Sunday or log on to Apple's Web site to check the battery's serial number and request a replacement battery.

If I get them to send me a replacement, what happens if I don't send my other one back?

my 12" pbook gets it's new battery in 4-6 weeks...

that seems like a long time for this "dangerous, burninating" battery replacement. mind you it's a 1gig book (2yrs old) and I have never recorded hot temps nor had any lap related fires. my old 12" ibook was another story though, it was discolored from the heat as were my quads.

meh, I guess a free new battery is a free new battery, I can wait

Seriously, can I just say it must've been lost in shipping? :dunno:

I really want to do this since they've so far screwed me over on 2 rebates and a free ipod battery replacement which they didn't do.

I was thinking of doing this. :hs: Nothing is wrong with my current battery. I'll probally just end up sending it back since it doesn't hold more than a 2hr charge anymore :o but it would be nice to have a spare just incase.. :naughty:

After a year and a half, I have absolutely KILLED my iBook battery, it only holsd a 35 minute charge, and I was about to buy a new $135 battery at the apple store today...

BUT BECAUSE MY BATTERY CAN SPONTANEOUSLY(sp?) BLOW UP :|

I get a new one for free :big grin::big grin::big grin::big grin::big grin: This is the bes tnews I've ever heard.

And I really don't wanna send back my old one anyways... I once ordered a box from Apple to fix my iPod and never sent anything back to them; I didn't hear anything... I doubt there is actally a law that makes t mandatory for us to send it back... so I'm probably keeping mine.

i doub't they would do anything if you recieved your new batt. and didn't sent the old one back. They are just going to trash them anyway. They are just asking for them back to cover themselves as much as possible. The less volitile batteries out there, the less likely one is going to blow, and they have to pay out when they get sued... :dunno:
