i'm a new mac user and i tried using Mail...i have over 2000 emails in my Gmail inbox..after downloading around 180 mails Apple Mail just stopped retrieving my mails. When i right click on the inbox and select 'Get Info' the application shows around only 300 mails in my Gmail account but not all of them. Its not even downloading the ones it is showing. What could be the problem??

I had that problem. I removed the Gmail account in Apple Mail and reinstalled it. The problem went away

It took me a while of futzing with the settings to get it to work properly with gmail. Check out the tutorial that gmail provides, the answer may be in there.

On a side note.... does anyone know a way to get mail to delete the mail from the server if deleted in mail? The only options I have found are to keep the mail on the gmail server indefinitely or to immediately delete it when loaded to mail.
