My mother won an Ipod Touch through her 'holiday' party at work. She doesn't need it nor knew what the fuck it was when they announced it, but wants to use it anyway so I'm stuck showing her how.

Now if I get her an iTunes gift certificate for xmas, and she downloads some tracks- will she be able to burn them to CD as well as transfer them to her ipod? Or does DRM limit their usage?

Could a person so inclined to do so mix itunes downloads and say, 'personal CD backups' together on an ipod if said person wanted to?

*ninja edit for appropriate wording of second question

why wouldn't you be able to? as far as i know, there has never been any hardware-enforced DRM on the iPod and I've owned 2.

as far as iTunes tracks being burnt, i can't say as i've never used the iTunes store. i'm pretty sure they offer DRM-free tracks now though

iTunes Plus sells non-DRM tracks for $1.99 each. Or, for 99c each, you can buy the normal DRM tracks, burn them to CD, and rip them back into mp3 to remove the DRM. But yes, you can burn to CD and copy to the iPod at the same time.

iTunes plus tracks cost the same as regular tracks, $0.99. Their selection is more limited however.
