Hey guys, thinking about picking up a 2 year old 20" Apple Cinema Display for editing. The guy wants $300 for it. Probably offer him around $250ish. Good deal? Comes with original box.

Would this be a good monitor to edit with? I really wanted something with 1920 X 1200 or whatever resolution - this one is only 1680 x whatever.

Dual smalls > one big. Nonetheless, Apple Cinemas are ok, but IMO they are the the one thing Apple sells that is NOT worth the hipster markup.

i dont think you can have dual displays with a macbook :dunno: you can have the external the the laptop screen, but not 2 externals i'm pretty sure.

I love running my MacBook with an external. I run everything full screen on my external and all my palettes on the macbook. It's a good, cheap solution.

if "hipster" counted for anything, then the Cinema Displays are the best Apple product money can buy. I have a 23" sitting on my desk and everyone who walks into my office says something to the effect of "Holy Monitor, Batman!"

I've been quite happy with my 23" ACDs. Color has been quite accurate and easy to calibrate.

i've always loved ACD's...they do a great job out of the box for color replication. I like them so much, I got two:

And $300 i still a great price for a used one.

You could get a non Apple brand monitor for much less....there is no advantage to a cinema display really....

So because it gets a reaction from people makes it worth the nearly $1000 or whatever they were a few years ago? I have worked on Cinemas for years off and on Macs and they're good, but I see NO advantage per dollar over other brands.

Point is, if color is critical and you are going to spend good money, buy a genuine Eizo, NEC or LaCie. Otherwise, if we're talking new and mid-grade, the Cinema just does not offer the best bang-per-buck.

For a used monitor, sure I'd buy one, but not a 20" for $300.

if you bring up color reproduction for post processing work and then talk about using an apple display out-of-the-box

I don't pay for mine... work does...

But the combination of the 23" cinema displays + the gretag-macbeth i1iO calibrator has given me the best color reproduction i've ever seen. and I do this shit all day. None of our other monitors, including the LaCie CRT's are up to par.

the fact that they're so damn pretty doesn't hurt either...
