A man was arrested for carrying a deadly weapon at a public gathering because he was carrying in WalMart.

This is the piece of state code he is charged with violating:

Of course the AG has issued his opinion that a public gathering is not any public place, but a specific event for which the public may gather:

One of the dumbest things I've ever heard of. Should be pretty easy for him to get off.

That's BS, I have carried in that store many times and never thought it would be a problem! Some of the cops in Newnan really need to find something to do with their time....

Guess he needs to find a lawyer now. Sounds like some BS charges.

He'll get off, unless it comes to light that he had no holster for that pistol. In GA, you can only carry on your person in a holster. So, he would've needed a pocket holster or some such holster.

That second item after the WalMart incident, though, sounds fishy. They don't give many details, but you don't have to have a permit just to have a pistol. What may have happened, and it's not in the blurb, is that the guy had the blaster concealed in his vehicle without a permit. In which case, he's an idiot for letting the officer search, because there was no other reason for the officer to do so.
