I just caught a news report stating that the army has a new program called the Army advantage fund.

It offers up to $40k for active or $20k for reservists to either buy a house or start a business. Even if the deals fall through you still get the money. It is a pilot program only going on in 5 cities around the states. San antonio is one of them and my recruiter is pissed. I just up and told him I'm not joining this week and I'm going to sign through San Antonio. Hell yea, 40k to buy a home and all I have to do is sign up through them for 4 years? Count me in.

There is also a quick ship bonus that entitles me to anywhere from $6-20k but I have to leave 30-days from the time I sign.

What they did say however is that my bonuses cannot total more than $40k so I'm going to get $35k for the home and $5k just for signing a 4 year contract. SWEET!

I'm just going to sit back and buy sometime till I'm actually ready to sign and leave rather than signing now and waiting 2 months so go.

$40k sounds amazing to me so just be aware folks, your recruiter WILL NOT tell you everything. Do some research and benefit yourself. I'll drive the 3 hours to SA to sign and get $40k. :wiggle:

Hell yea and for a 3 hour drive up to SA I'll make it.

They tell me my TOTAL enlistment bonus cannot exceed $40k though.

That means for me to get my quick-ship bonus of $6k I can only get $34k for the house....awe shucks. lol Sign me up.:mamoru:

    Enlistment rates must be low.

Wish they would have done that for the Air Force when we signed up.

Don't worry man. I wish I could join the Air Force so we are even. :hs: I mean yea, I'll still have a decent job and awesome benefits but I'd rather join the Air Force for the schooling and jobs they offer instead. I regret having to get my GED now big time.(failed a subject senior year and decided not to go to summer school and just got that.)

Join the National Guard....then go through the Active First program. You can get a total of $60k :) (you sign through the guard, spend 12-36 months Active Duty, then transfer to the Guard)

plus 100% Tuition Assistance, MGIB-SR, etc. etc. :naughty:

and to think i only got $3k to sign up when i did.....before these big bonuses.

lol, I'm sure it applies to anything.

All I have to do is ATTEMPT to open a business or buy a house, get the check and then say, na never mind and the money is mine.

More than likely though I'll end up using it to buy a home anyway, everyone needs one and with $30k that'll be a great down payment on a pretty damn nice home.

Only thing I'm having problems with is that my office here is jerking me around trying to get me to stay here but damnit, I want my free money.

They are doing all they can to make sure I go to MEPS this weekend so they can cover their own asses, I know it.

I don't mind talking but when they start to screw with me it does start to piss me off. If I never would have caught that news cast I never would have been in this mess but the ends justify the means so heres hoping.

just stop talking to the recruiters in your hometown, sure it'll piss em off but not like you're forced to go through them. i joined in a completely different state than where i lived since my dad was friends with the recruiter wanted to make sure i didnt get bullshitted around.

    :eek4:

NEVER leave your personal identification cards/papers with ANYONE. EVER. If the military needs to make copies, they can make them while you wait. But your original shit stays with you when you leave the office.

Drop right the fuck now and give me 20. And add on another 20 for making me angry.

Well, the jobs I want don't qualify for this program but I'm going to see what I can get out of them when I sit down with the counselor.

This has been one of the biggest hassles ever but at least tomorrow's the big day.
