Apparently, it's a bad idea to workout after you give blood.

I originally planned to take this entire week off so I could give blood and recuperate (back and shoulder have been feeling funny), but decided to go to the gym tonight at 6:30 to do some squats (my squat #'s suck) and legpresses. I donated blood yesterday at 4pm.

To begin with, some guy had 4-45's and a 25 on each side of the bar and didn't bother to put them away. It didn't occur to me that I should remove them in a balanced manner (I've been a little airheaded since I gave blood), so as I removed the last 45, the bar lifted and went crashing onto the opposite side of the squat rack. Luckily, I left the weight collar on that side where it was, so all it did was make one loud noise. Everyone looked at me and I just laughed at my own idiocy. I should have just cut my losses here and left.

Last week, I did (reps x weight):

    12x45 (warmup)
    8x135
    8x155
    7x155
    4x185.

Yes, I know my legs are weak, but I've only been squatting for a month or so.

Tonight, I got tired REALLY fast. I did:

    12x45
    8x135
    4x185
    2x185

And I was pretty much done. I did 180lb less on legpresses than I normally do and limped out of the gym.

Moral of the story: don't workout hard the day after you give blood :hsd:

And I'm O positive as well, so they're all over me every 8 weeks.

Some people are effected worse than others. I was capable of running 5 miles in XC after giving blood without a problem, but I have another firend who almost fainted from doing it.

    Just listen to your body.

It all depends on the person. Some people are fine and go about their day like nothing happened, and others pass out, need to go home and sleep, etc... I think the fact that you went to the gym the same day you gave blood is pretty good, and you should feel cool just for going :bigthumb:

I worked out a few hours after I gave blood... no problem. :dunno:

When I was at basic in Georgia there was a blood drive going on and I volunteered even though I knew I was sick (I hadn't had anything remotely considered junk food in two months and I knew there would be cookies and juice.), after bullshitting the thermometer (I took it out of my mouth when the chick wasn't looking at around 99.9) I went and gave blood. Now, this was like the fourth or fifth time I'd given so it wasn't a big deal, but for some reason it really hurt this time, and when I finished and tried to sit up I went completely blind for like five minutes. Somebody had to lead me over to my cookies. :noes:
