My HD had massive failure leading to Windows being unable to restart.
No Start up disc or non destructive recovery would get it back online.

Since I had no back up of all my pics, word docs, and everything in between on that HD I was very reluctant to wipe it until I have exhausted every option.

So what I did was buy another cheapy computer and install it as the slave HD. It allowed me to see the files on it but not access the "Owner" files in the Documents and Settings (which is where everything is at). I had it set to Admin level to keep my kids out of it. They had their own profile with was a low end user which I can open.

Is there anyway to crack that open so I can save my data to the new computer? I do not even want to save the old computer. I just want to save all that data. It was Windows XP and it was a shitty Compaq computer.

Currently I am scan-disking, defragging , and reinstalling each file I find corrupt in the old drive and hoping I can reinstall it and get it running long enough to move the files to an unprotected spot but I am not holding out for that.

Thank you for any and all suggestions.

*EDIT* I swear this is not to hack it or anything. I just want two years worth of pics, vids, all my programs I stored and all my word docs I was using in my divorce back.

I have been trying to reinstall windows but I think the drive is so screwed it wont fully boot before hitting an error.

Most common one I am getting right now is \windows\system32\config\system file not found.....

I will look over that link thank you.

Sorry. I did search and could not find this exact problem.

That DID fix it. I was able to save all the data and am not doing the destructive recovery to see if I can save the other computer. Thank you.
