Every time I check HP manuals it says to only use HP memory. I figured that this was just their bullshit reason to get you to buy stuff from them. But today I was looking for memory on newegg and saw this:

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...0134204&cm_re=pc2_3200-_-20-134-204-_-Product

It says it's specifically for HP systems. What is different about this memory and why would HP computers use a different type of RAM?

They don't, although you do need to get the right kind (slot, speed). HP just says they won't guarantee any sort of compatibility with non-approved RAM.

I have used normal DDR memory in HP computers BUT I think it's possible certain models require special memory. I am trying to figure out if this is true.

    Not impossible, but very unlikely.
