Im thinking about taking the plunge and buying FCE4. I used to love making short movies and I want to get back into it since I boughta 7D a few months ago. Thoughts? Better program out there?

    it pretty much goes
    iMovie > FCE > FCP

if imovie doesn't do enough for you, jump to express, if you need every feature under the sun, jump to pro...

I'm really not a fan of the new iMovie. It was not as intuitive as the old version was.

I envy you! I'm new to DSLR's and I'm trying to learn how to use my Nikon D40, but I've been wanting a 5D or 7D for a while now for it's HD video capabilities.

I too think you're better off with FCE. I'm not sure if iMovie supports full 1080P.

7D is pretty nice.... but honestly I haven't used its movie capabilities yet, I have a Canon HD camera.... I believe its an HV10? or something like that. But the idea of shooting movies with different lenses seems really appealing.

In fce4 can you edit your clips like you can edit photos in light room? I want to be able to adjust things like contrast, saturation, brightness, exposer, etc etc.

It's really tedious. You'll want Final Cut Studio for that, specifically Apple Color.

Fuck Color. if you're not a high end studio, Color is worthless. a co-worker and I got 2 or 3 days of apple training on Color when it first came out and we've yet to touch it since. the interface is a HUGE pain in the ass...

Color is like having a 5 star chef pour you a bowl of cereal for breakfest...

FCE 2 way color wheel is enough for basic color adjustments...

It's so worth it if you make videos often, Color works the same as Aperture. Maybe you can buy Color alone? I never looked into that.

I'll see how many videos I make.... honestly its not the 1000 that im worried about, its how often will I actually use the program to justify the cost. I bought FCE4 to try it out because imovie is OK but im sure FCE is much better.
