Looking at starting up some major printing in a few months and I'm looking to pick up a used G5 PowerMac with 4 gigs of ram and a few hard drive slots.

I want to have hte hard drives set up in some sort of RAID array (all the files will be stored on here and don't really want a harddrive to crash and lose everything).

The printer would be an Epson Stylus Pro 7800.

The Epson website said it'll work fine with Tiger.

Anyone ever used a G5 for professional printing?

We have a G5 (and a Mini) dedicated to Mac specific jobs at my work (Sign Design Inc) and they have no problems. Most of the time we just save jobs to PDF's or .EPS files and send them.

A G5 is only going to have 2 HD bays inside. It's not like the MacPro's. So you'll need/want an external RAID setup.

Ah, I did not know this :(

I guess that wouldn't be too bad. hell, we could probably get a Mini and use a linux box with a giant array to store all the files, then network the mini to it via 1000 base ethernet
