We were looking at some of the LITE-ON models which use dvdr disks to record input from s-video or rca inputs. I'm looking for something with component inputs. Do those even exists for ~$200?

You cannot record high def broadcasts to a DVD yet. Unless you are talking about writing the captured transport stream directly to a data DVD.

Use DVHS or emulated software on a computer to record high definition broadcasts. You can use editing software to scale down recorded high def shows and burn them to DVDs however.

thats what I thought. Apparently of those set top box dvd recorders they don't allow component in. I guess using one of those TV tuner cards i the only choice.
