I just got back from a gun show and saw one for the first time. It looked pretty badass and the dude was selling it for $459. I was tempted to buy it :hs:. Have any of you guys ever messed around with one?

I was reading that thread before I saw your post. I haven't gotten that far yet, though.

I still might get one I dunno, a 5.56 pistol would be fun, PLR is cheaper then an AR pistol build and I'd hate having the buffer tube sticking out of the AR pistol :hs:

    Same here.

I'd love to have one, but I also like having all my fingers, both my hands & eyes, and not making retard noises for the rest of my life due to a kb.

    I would buy one.
I suspect the guy was using aluminum cased ammo which could have caused it. The gun clearly says not to use that crap..

More than that I cannot say. I believe its fairly safe or they would not continue to sell it..

    Yummy in 223!
If the gun appealed to me I would buy it.. But it looks like a pooping dog IMO

I read the thread and looked at the pictures and story, I ran it past some reloaders and they all agreed it looks pretty clearly like an ammo failure. I'd definately like to get one.

i put about 100 rounds through one at the range, and the thing is definitely awesome. it had less recoil than the HK 9mm i shot with it. definitely a really, really cool gun. i wouldn't worry about the KB, it happens to every gun here and there.

It's not the KB that bothers me. It's how the gun was pretty much obliterated and the bolt barely missed his head. Don't most guns handle KBs a little better than that?

Guns are designed to shoot.. not explode.

Really, you can't design it to be "non-fatal on the KB" :hsugh: It's not something you'd want to advertise anyways..

Well supposedly kel-tec has since tried to make a gun kb with ammo problems and squibs and hasn't been successful. In the newer models they are supposedly putting a cut into the bolt carrier in case of a blown case I guess. "they cut a groove in the bolt carrier right above the bolt to vent gas. Per keltec thy have not been able to get a reciever to fail even with an obstructed barrell since the addition of the change." "e tested that vent quite a bit, and we could not get the receiver to even crack using ammo that we weakened the case on, even when testing it with a bullet pounded into the bore (right in front of the chamber) we could not get it to blow, it just shot out both bullets, and blew out some gases by the vent. the most damage we saw was a blown magazine, broken mag catch, and bent firing pin."

I'm wanting to say case rupture from bad brass was the predicted cause. Apparently not an impossibility with wwb. I can't find the thread to be for sure but I think the other theory was excessive setback but I think it was refuted.

To me it makes me more cautious of wwb rifle rounds than keltec guns.

:werd: its the second gun I've seen blow up from wwb .223 in the last few months, there was an ar15 that blew up after wwb case rupture a couple months back too.

I checked out the pics and the update on pg15.

Kel-Tec has some pretty damn good customer service.

I dont think I'de lose sleep over it, theres millions and millions of wwb rounds out there that haven't blown, odd's of it happening to you are probably close to those of winning lotto, I'de buy WWB if local wallyworlds sold it :dunno:

I guess I'll be picking one of these up, then. It looks like it'd be a lot of fun to shoot.

it is, trust me. pick up a muzzle brake for it too, the one i shot had an AK style brake and there was almost 0 recoil. like i said, it had less recoil than the HK 9mm i shot that same day. it was cool how the flame shot 3 feet out of the sides too.
