I bought one today to shoot in the basement. nothing fancy, just a crosman quest. 1000fps.
its pretty fun so far, all i need is a 3/4" plank of pine for a backstop.
now i need to find a decent scope, the one that comes with it is about effective as shooting with my eyes closed.
i cant wait to bust some little vermin this fall!

I've thought about getting one. There's a racoon that lives under my deck at my house here and I have a dog. I'm not going to shoot it with a real gun in city limits so I've considered getting a pellet gun.

Think .177 would be enough to take a full sized racoon down?

glue a primer cap to the front of the pellet and get a pellet gun that is c02 powered so you can crank the fps up enough to do some dmg sure i think it could

    or not

    just go buy a trap

I took out a 20-25lb opossum that was eating my cats food in one shot with my benjamin sheridan (can you say boooom head shot). I hit another one in the wrong spot and it just ran off.

Grab a decent airgun scope. My old break barrel (had some sort of foreign markings on it) would spin the crosshairs with every shot on a cheap .22 4x I bought for it. :mamoru:
I just bought a Beeman 1040 this summer and its fun to screw around with. Certainly not as powerful as my old one though :hsugh:

I just bought my 8 year-old son an air-gun to teach him the basics of gun-safety. So far, he loves it.

if you have a springer gun (break barrel), you MUST use a springer scope. the reverse recoil will fuck up even the best rifle scope. the scope i got with mine sucks ass, but it holds together. i need to find something better.
plus the rings are crucial, because the vibrations will loosen almost anything.

That one gets my vote. I used one to kill rabbits that got into my dad's vegetables. They used to cut the nicest flip.

I still have a Gamo Shadow 1000. I've used it to take out quite a few pests and rodents in the backyard. Supposedly with this new ammo that Gamo has, it will shoot around 1,200fps, but :dunno:.

I got a co2 powered crossman pellet gun when I was a kid. Uses small 12 round cylinders. I like it alot. Used to shoot small birds from a sniping position in a hay loft window.
At one point I even camoflauged the barrel and stock by wrapping and tying straw around it

I'd go with .22 if I were you.
I have Weihrauch HW77 in .22, I've taken cats, rabbits and rats with 1 shot to the body.

careful with .22 airguns, in my state they are firearms, so you cant use them in the city.

+1 on the .22 pellet, that's what my benjamin sheridan has and it's great stopping power for a pellet gun.
