I think they're commonly known as Thumpstars, but there's other brands like Atomik and Orion.
How are these? Are they any different to say a 125cc by a company such as Honda/Suzuki/KTM etc?
Do they require special maintainance? Are these bikes cheap, just like their price?

I'm looking to possibly purchase one for my brother's birthday.

That it, they're also called Pit Bikes.

Can you give me some info on them? Your opinion?

Well they are fine. Easy to up keep and the parts are cheap. I'm 195lb and it has no problem moving me around. Mine gets up to 45mph here are a few pictures. I have disc brakes on it so it stops well but N is hard to find.

IMHO, don't waste yer $ on a chinese knockoff. Buy a Honda crf50 and put an 88cc or 108cc kit on it. My 108 will WALK any/all chinese 125s. It will cost more, but you get what you pay 4.

My friend tried to teach me to ride his 50cc. It flew out from under me. He fits on it fine, being 5'4". I, on the other hand, do not, at 6'5".

88 is just a top end kit(bore only), 108 is an 88 kit with a stroke.
