Just curious because i'm kind of getting the 1911 bug and i can get a new one on the cheap.
I have a 4" Gunsite and the girlfriend has a 5" 1911PD. They're both great guns. I had an issue with the Gunsite when I first got it (extractor) and S&W's customer service was outstanding.
I have only shot one once (friend of a friend type thing) so I cannot tell you how well the gun was cared for or if anything had been bubba'ed. Anyways he let me shoot it with his ammo after he had fired 3 magazines, anyways of the 4th magazine of the day the slide would not fully return, anywhere from 1/8" to 1/2" left to travel it would simply bind open. A quick tap would close it. The owner said it happens a lot to him with dirty ammo. He got it cheap to.
That's the only experience i have, I cannot tell you if it was tight tolerances and dirty ammo that did the gun in, or if there had been work done like a lighter recoil spring.
