I'm having trouble finding any information on them
Would it handle a 383 stroker 400hp 450ft/lb?
count the number of bolts on the diff cover for starters. I dont think its a 12 bolt probably a 10 bolt. I think its an 8.5 inch ring gear.
I it an auto or manual? that will help determine the survivalbility of the rear end
it's a manual, stock 216 CID straight six. i think it's only rated at 95bhp
i thought the 10 bolt/12 bolt stuff started in '55
They are junk, just put a 10bolt out of a Nova I think in it .. I have a 51 Chevy Deluxe @ the shop. I will see how wide it is .. Are you looking to put a later model rearend in it or leave it stock ?? The stock rearends are all one peice including the driveshaft..
No way in hell would it hold ..
i figured id go with a ford 9 or 8.8" rear w/about a 340 ratio if i had to rip the old one. any recommendations? this is my first hotrod
10 or 12 bolt chevys just as good?
If you are not going to have more then 500hp, I would just put a 10 bolt in there.. 12 bolts and Ford 9" are expensive.. Im pretty sure you can put a Camaro -or- Nova 10bolt under it ..
thanks a lot. what cars came with posi 10 bolts?
Camaro, Firebirds, Nova.. That is where I would start.
