tis true statement....and a few days prior..they rejected two US minesweepers to pull in to avoid inclement weather.

But according to China's Foreign Prime Minister or whatever the hell his title is...it's all a misunderstanding.

Didn't China also pop a sub up near the Kitty Hawk a few weeks ago too? They seem to be getting a bit out there with thier actions lately. Personally I wouldn't have cared if they denied entry to Hong Kong, but the way they did it by saying it was ok, and then denying it right before entry was messed up. The minesweeper incident was worse than that even IMHO.

Yeah, I definitely remember that Chinese sub "incident" -- apparently people (according to thesun.co.uk) believe we're incompetent morons with out-dated technology incapable of detecting slant eye submarines . Some whacko made a thread about it on here.

Oh and it seems they refused our entry based on "humanitarian grounds" :hs:

The way I think about it, that sub probably surfaced to show he didn't have any ill intentions so it wouldn't be blwon out of the water. There is no other good reason for it.

As far as denial of port entry, denying two ships shelter from a storm sounds like it was done for a humanitarian reason, because they are China, and thier reputation would be gone if they were seen as humanitarian

Yes, there was a Sub, and no, it was not a few weeks ago. I was deployed on the Shitty Kitty and still have a lot of friends on there. I heard about it right after it happened :naughty:

According to CNN just now, a frigate has been denied a port call on New Year's Eve, a C17 was denied entry into Chinese airspace to drop supplies at a US Consulate there, and some other ships have also been denied port entry.

Would they rather prefer C17 Globemasters dropping cargo or F/A-22s dropping JDAMs?

There is most defiantly a difference between your unit not being able to afford a new part this quarter and America unable to afford a war. The difference being, you get xxx amount of $$ and that's it. America has this thing called the deficit that can grow as large as they want it to. Money is no longer a tangible item, money doesn't exist. If the government wanted to write checks tomorrow for 95 trillion dollars for some project they have, they could. Want to know why? Because everything is electronic.

This does present problems though when you factor in the rest of the world, and our dollar value compared to theirs, but we have this one advantage of being the only super power in the world. Who seriously is going to ask us to do something we don't want to do, or tell us what to do? (Hello UN saying we couldn't declare war on Iraq and what did we do.. and what reprocussions did we have? None). I believe if the US gets to a point where they believe our "superpowerism" is in jeopardy by someone like China who is probably our biggest threat in that area, we'd do something about it to keep the playing field in our favor.

wasn't there a submarine incident a year ago? I swear I remember hearing something in the news. I know there was one in the news recently, though.. was this a replay or a 2nd event or is my memory wrong?

    Thanks for the economics lesson.
But seriously, we can't afford it.

BTW, my unit has no shortage of money either.

You could at least reword your reasoning into "we cannot afford it in manpower terms, not money". I'd agree we don't have the troops to sustain what we have in the middle east AND do a full scale war with China. But economics wise? Like I said money doesn't exist :p

But money does exist. What happens when we piss everyone off, and they come to collect thier debt? Its hard to explain, but it would cripple the country because we would no longer be able to trade with anyone, as we wouldn't have any money on a world stage.
