My stupid sister is a spaz and airhead and instead of calling the cops, and finding a baseball bat or knife, she got a 3lbs dumbbell and called her neighbors and land lord, none of whom were at home. And then AFTER calling those people called the cops.
    :uh:

So she might be so stupid as to shoot her self if she had a gun and this happened again.

That being said anyone know what kind of gun is good for a girl in the home? Shes 28, medium sized, but gangly spaghetti arms and probably couldn't hold a heavy gun.

As mentioned in the main, it's somewhat difficult to get a firearm in Mass. I'd imagine she needs a Firearm Owner Identification Card, which I have no idea the steps required to get one. A 20 ga pump shotgun is probably going to be her best choice if she goes through with it, they are not that heavy and have enough power to stop an intruder.

Get some Fox OC pepper spray

    Get alarm monitoring service

Teach her to dial 911 then call other people.

    This.

If you think she can't handle a gun, then she has no business getting one. The last thing we need is another statistic for the antis to use.

It's Massachusetts, I wouldn't want to give someone who has no business handling firearms in a state that would probably throw her in jail for a clean shot. I'm going w/ Nebbo :bigthumb:

She sounds like she definitely needs some help formulating some reaction plans for if she finds herself in another emergency before she starts adding tools.

Ask at the police department, gun shops, or women's shelters about self-defense courses. Game some scenarios with her; ask her what she could do if X happens, where she can go if Y happens. Having plans that include various options considered ahead of time is critical to making smart decisions under stress.

When a gun is an option, she'll want to find something that will fit her hand. Some sort of 20ga shotgun is a good suggestion. Probably easier to obtain than a pistol in MA, which has laws that are particularly hostile to gun owners. If a pistol is an option, the revolver is a good choice, but I'd stay away from the Scandium framed guns. Their light weight makes them good to carry around but not so good to actually shoot. The standard aluminum or steel framed .38 revolvers (S&W 442/642?) will certainly be light enough for her to manipulate and will have enough weight to make actually shooting with them manageable as well.

i wouldn't suggest a double action only revolver to someone who you give an indication of as not being someone that can handle a gun. the long trigger pull would probably result in her missing her intended target even at close range unless she is gonna practice and learn how to handle a firearm

I think pepper spray is regulated in Mass as well.

If she isn't going to be familiar with a gun don't bother getting her one, also if it is just for home use get a bigger heavier gun, it will make the recoil less dramatic (generally speaking)

If she's strong enough to hold up 5lbs STEADY for few minutes, probably the best route.
