Well for the past month or so I have been having the itch to get something else on my ear pierced, so I decided on cartilage. Anyone hear gotten their's pierced with like a 12ga, or 10ga? I kinda want to stretch it out a little bit after it heals in a few months or so, so would it be worth it to get it pierced larger, or just to work my way down?

Go bigger. Cart. stretching hurts like hell, you might as well just get it done fast.

EDIT: By go bigger, I mean get it pierced at a larger gauge. Still sticking with the "hurts like hell" part.

my advice is if you want to go big eventually, do it from the start..

I originally got mine done at claires (i know, I was a dumb college freshman) and over time have guaged it up to a 10 (not that big, but big enough).. and unfortunately, it still get sore pretty frequently (6 years later). One of these days i will go back and have it re-pierced in the same spot with a bigger needle, hopefully that can help..

it was just another option to bring up if they wanted a large gauge and not have to worry about cartlege build up though stretching.

many people wont go that option because of the fear of having a permanent hole.

what's cartilage build-up? stretching cartilage doesnt make it build-up anything. cartilage cant re-generate like skin

then what is it called when you keep streching and the skin/cartledge around the piercing starts to mound up around the jewelery? i know a few chicks who've streched their industrials and have it.

well it could be a couple things, stretching too fast causes 'blow-outs' which is just skin coming out and building up around a piercing.

then there is hypertrophic scarring(which most people confuse for keloids), this happens with a lot of cartilage piercings. its just slightly irritated skin, a few good remedies are either chamomile tea soaks or even tea tree oil. i've also heard of people using peroxide to remove the scarring(although i dont recommend this method)
