i tried 2 different distributions that were meant for amd hardware. one of them installed (failed about 3 times during installation, but finally finished after trying again)
niether of them would boot, they just hang

i'd rather spend the money to have something stable on decent hardware

I have a PowerBook, but I also have Leo installed on my AMD system as well, works great! I had Tiger running before that as well and it too ran nicely.

Cool to see people working ways to do what they want with a computer and OS. Personally I love the Mac hardware and that the OS works so easily with it (install only we won't talk about Leopard operations here).
